"Mom, why can't the world just stop for a broken heart?"
These words from my nine-year-old while we all held each other and cried buckets of tears over the impending move of Chris' sister's family made me think and pray. Because sometimes that is how it feels. The world SHOULD stop! And yet...
We started talking about old memories with them after we kissed the girls goodbye today. Claire said she felt like she was losing her best friends. And my heart ached for her. Josh had tears streaming down his face, too. Then he wiped his boogers on my sleeve. I didn't feel so sorry for him after that. I kept praying that I would know what to say.
We listened to an old song, "Friends" by Michael W. Smith and cried some more. Then HE answered. The world does not stop because His plan is perfect. He wants us to trust that, and He wants us to forge on in His strength and give the glory to Him. He promises that all things work together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. So, rather than feel sad for ourselves that they are moving away, we should be excited at what our LORD has in store for them and us in this new chapter of our lives! Thanks, LORD! And to the Grevers...may God bless you in your new home!
Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can't believe the hopes He's granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong
Chorus:
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord's the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
'Cause the welcome will not end
Though it's hard to let you go
In the Father's hands we know
That a lifetime's not too long to live as friends.
With the faith and love God's given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray the joy you'll live in
Is the strength that now you show
But we'll keep you close as always
It won't even seem you've gone
'Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong
Chorus

That's the song that I clung to when I moved from CC to California when I was in 6th grade. Funny how the comfort of God's truth transends all time. :)
